Jessica COHEN

Jessica COHEN is born in 1986. She graduated from the Barnard College. She lives and works in New York. What she describes as ”frustration” led her to her current work. After years of Representational paintings, she begun to ”carve” swirling lines and complex patterns in the wood. She’s fascinated by grains and lines in the wood. She uses the grain of the wood as an outline that allows her to focus on the relations between colors and shapes. It also opens her way to go beyond the surface and explore various technics and mediums. Through her work, she becomes able to tackle and juxtapose various oppositions: natural/supernatural, abstraction/realism, order/disorder, subtraction/addition, simplicity/complexity, childhood/adulthood.
